Bogart is in jail. He's been there before, but he never felt like he deserved it until now. Peeing on the carpet is one thing, but now he's killed a man. And it wasn't just any old man--any old man may have been forgiveable. Bogart killed Swifty's father, and Swifty is Bogart's human, so now he deserves his jail sentence. Now he deserves a death sentence. He's truly a bad dog.

In an effort to give Swifty back the part of him that he took away, Bogart escapes and embarks on a journey to recover the dead man's Red Sox hat. Joined by his border collie girlfriend, Ginger, and an abandoned kitten named Snowball, the three of them set out to become good again.

I just finished reading Memoir's of a Bad Dog. I'm not much good at writing reviews, but I absolutely loved this book. The author did an excellent job of writing from the perspective of a dog. The book brought up all sorts of emotions for me, happiness, sadness, joy, anger....you name it. I literally laughed out loud in places and was left in tears in others. I would definately recommend this book to everyone I know. I will be looking out for more by this author in the future, from what I can find online this appears to be his only work at the moment.

I picked this up during a freebie promotion but it is well worth the $3.99 it is priced at currently.

I might add that this is one of the few Kindle books I have picked up as a freebie that appears to have been expertly edited. I only found one typo in the entire book, that's pretty much unheard of for a freebie these days.

I was a little leary of clicking on the book since at the time I did, 4 out of the 5 reviews posted were posted by people with this one and only review. That normally seems to be a red flag that the author's friends and family were recruited to post them. I'm glad I took a chance because the book really does deserve the 5 star ratings.

When I first read that Bogart saw something in color, I was afraid that this book would be filled with errors. Perhaps his seeing in color bothered me because I always wish my own dog could enjoy beautiful sunsets with me, but then I must remind myself that dogs don’t see colors. Funny how I had not by then found it odd that Bogart had a well-formed philosophy of life and guilt over being a bad dog.
Remarkably the author was able to write a book this long from a dog’s perspective, making the reader almost believe that the thoughts were really those of a basset hound. I enjoyed the humor but also appreciated the sections making me aware of how cruel some people can be to our furry friends.
Bogart’s descriptions of Heaven were interesting. I think I myself will avoid the center of the star pools once I get there. I appreciated Bogart’s acceptance of other dogs that made it to Heaven, even when they had wronged Bogart here on earth.
When you finish the book, you may find yourself wondering more often what your dog is thinking.
Had to comment on this book ESPECIALLY now that I saw the author's comments! When I first got this book, I figured it had the POTENTIAL to be very good. However, it ALSO had the potential of being a great-sounding idea that didn't deliver anything of substance. (i.e. -- I would have packed it in after the first chapter.) SO delighted that it was the former! What a ride this wonderful book was. TRUE it is not a child's tale. It is a beautiful parable really and yes, parts of it were VERY difficult to read. But I am VERY glad I continued to the end. Bogart is TRULY a very GOOD dog. It was fun, terrifying, droll, gritty, witty and enlightening to walk in his paws. I couldn't put this one down. Good dog, Bogart! Good job, Curtis Moser. I look forward to seeing more from you!
Bogart is a basset hound who thinks he's a bad dog and is terrified this means he is going to be doomed to doggy Hell. He has a plan, though, to keep that horrible fate from happening he'll do some good deeds to help repair his karma. Unfortunately for Bogart, things never seem to work out as planned.

Told from Bogart's point-of-view, you get to meet his human Swifty, his girlfriend Ginger, and a cast of other characters, both human and critter as he tries his best to mend his ways while lusting after bacon and hot dogs.

Please note, this is NOT a children's book and is not meant to be read to children. Despite the book's premise and its characters, there are scenes that are definitely unsuitable for children.

It is an endearing, poignant, and heartwarming story that will make you laugh, chuckle, nod your head in agreement at times, and even cause a lump to form in your throat and tears in your eyes. This book covers all of the bases, including a bittersweet love story. Highly recommended.
Books with animal narrators are growing in popularity these days, and I'm a great fan of the fun found from seeing life from a dog's prospective!! This Is one of the best ones I've read!!

Curtis Moser has created an hilarious, philosophical, thoroughly
'dog' narrator in Bogart, the long eared hound dog! Have you ever considered that your dog might consider that the beautiful dog run you created for your favorite dog, may be called 'the jail' by your loving 'best friend'?

Bogart just wants to be considered a 'good dog' but as he goes through life, he finds that he honestly must consider himself a 'bad dog'. It's not just that he pees on the carpet because it's soft and doesn't leave a puddle. It surely isn't because he creatively saves pork chops and other treats hidden in and under furniture for 'later times of need'. But when he gets Ginger , his best girl 'dog friend' to unhook his latch closing him into his 'jail' and they wander off for an adventure, he definitely goes into the 'bad dog' category!

While chasing a cow, Bogart causes his owner's father to die in a car crash. Because he's so sorry, he wants to sooth his owner's sadness in some way, and perhaps get some repentance and forgiveness at the same time. Maybe getting his owner's Dad's Red Socks hat back will help. After all, they did spend hours yelling about that red sock while looking at the tiny people running around in that little black box in their house.

Thus begins an adventure told through Bogart's eyes that will make you laugh, cry, and perhaps ponder your own life. You'll clap your paws with joy at times. You'll definitely become jealous of those beautiful long ears. You'll cheer when Bogart finally decides that Snowball, the cat, is actually pretty smart! But mostly, you'll be thrilled that you found and read this tremendous first book from Curtis Moser!!
